If you missed your chance to apply for NSFAS funding in 2020, you now have another chance.
The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has opened a new application window for registered students who do not have funding but are eligible for NSFAS funding.
This application window will be open for a period of 2 weeks, running from 18 August until 3 September 2021.
“The Nsfas board, after careful consideration of the plight of currently registered university students that were not able to apply for funding during the funding application window due to a number of reasons, resolved to grant a once-off application window period for those students to apply.
"The initiative is aimed at alleviating the financial burden of eligible and deserving students but also minimizing the burden of student debt." NSFAS said in a statement.
In order to be considered, students must be registered at a public university for the 2021 academic year and without any other form of bursary funding.
NSFAS has urged universities to inform students about the new application window to ensure that they apply before the closing date.
In order to apply, students will have to submit their names and details to Financial Aid Offices at their respective universities.
As part of the application process, students will also have to submit all the relevant supporting documents needed, as incomplete applications will not be considered.
Students whose applications for 2021 funding were previously rejected can submit an appeal on the NSFAS website.
"Please note there currently is no closing date for appeals, applicants should get their responses after 30 days upon lodging their appeals." NSFAS explained.
