The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) has announced that the second phase of the online application system will open on Monday. This second phase will run from Monday 13 September 2021 to Friday 17 September 2021.

The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) has announced that the second phase of the online application system will open on Monday. This second phase will run from Monday 13 September 2021 to Friday 17 September 2021.
This phase will allow parents and guardians in the province to apply to schools for their children who are going to Grade 1 or Grade 8 in the 2022 academic year. The second phase will be specifically targeting parents whose children are currently not attending public schools in the province. However, parents who have failed to apply in phase 1 will be given the opportunity to make the application in phase 2.
Below is the list of essential documentation needed when making the applications.
1. Parent and child ID or passport2. Your South African Birth Certificate3. Proof of Home Address4. Proof of Work Address5. Latest School Report6. Clinic Card/Immunization Card (Grade 1 only)
These are alternative documentation needed if you do not have a South African ID or Passport.
1. Refugee Permit 2. Asylum Seeker Permit3. Permanent Residence Permit4. Study Permit
Parents or guardians are urged to upload these documents to the system, or personally deliver them to the schools at which they have applied for their children within seven days of their application.
Gauteng Education MEC, Panyaza Lesufi, has lamented the success of phase one used by the GDE system. The GDE received 351 169 applications during the first phase. He thanked all the stakeholders, parents and guardians who he believes have played a part in making the system a success so far.
“We wish every parent and guardian applying under phase 2 the very best and we assure them that our team will be there to assist them every step of the way”.
The GDE says they provide members of the parents and guardians with assistance via their social media pages, call centre and walk-in centres.
