Proposed School Calendar for 2020 and 2021

Having cut the academic year short due to Covid-19, the Department of Basic Education has published new school calendars for 2020 and 2021.

Grade 7 and 12 students returned to school on the 8th of June for the first time since the middle of March, with other grades expected to do the same on the following dates: 

 

6 July 2020

  • Early Childhood Development ("ECD");
  • Grade 1;
  • Grade 2;
  • Grade 3;
  • Grade 6;
  • Grade 10;
  • Grade 11;
  • School of Skills: Years 2 and 3;
  • Schools for Learners with Severe Intellectual Disabilities ("SID"): Grades R, 1, 2, 3 and 6; and
  • Special Care Centres for Learners with Severe and Profound Intellectual Disabilities  ("LSPID"): Years 1-3

3 August 2020

  • Grade 4;
  • Grade 5;
  • Grade 8
  • Grade 9;
  • School of Skills: Year 1; and
  • Schools for Learners with Severe Intellectual Disabilities  (' SID"): Grades 4 and 5

The department released an updated calendar which provides 2020's new term dates which amount to a total of seven school holidays for the rest of 2020.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The four school terms for 2020 are now gazetted as follows:

  • Term 1: 15 January – 18 March
  • Term 2: 8 June – 7 August
  • Term 3: 12 August – 23 September
  • Term 4: 5 October – 15 December
