Rising star awards introduces new category

The Standard Bank Rising Star Awards have announced the introduction of a new ‘Construction & Engineering’ category for the prestigious annual event. Due to high demand, the deadline date for nominations is now extended until Monday, 20 April 2015, boasting twelve categories in total this year (covering a wide variety of business sectors).

The fourth annual awards ceremony recognises, inspires and celebrates young South African individuals, between the ages of 28 and 40, who have made outstanding contributions to their organisations’ and to the future of the nation as a whole.

Laura Barker, MD of BlackBark Productions, organisers of the Rising Star Programme, says there is a growing demand from organisations to recognise the value of their employees, both internally and externally.

She adds: “As construction and engineering are two of the most important industries to give South Africa’s economy a massive boost, it was a natural decision to create a category that celebrates the wealth of talent within these business sectors.”

Apart from construction & engineering, the other categories include: banking & financial services; energy & chemicals; entrepreneurship; ICT; transport, logistics & supply chain; media & advertising; mining & industrials; professional services; manufacturing, retail & FMCG; service: public & private; as well as tourism, leisure & hospitality.

“The Rising Star Programme is far more than just an awards ceremony, but provides a platform for networking, giving the Rising Stars access to each other’s wealth of knowledge and experience.

“This is achieved through an online portal, face-to-face social events and regular newsletters. The finalists are also invited to complimentary business seminars, summits and learning events, and receive 12 months complimentary access to over 600 online learning courses,” Barker says.

Sponsors of the Standard Bank Rising Star Awards include USB-ED, merSETA, Sasol, ArcelorMittal, Technology Innovation Agency, SITA, Hilton Worldwide, ASTD, Cliff Central, Who’s Who, and title sponsor Standard Bank, among others.
