South Africa has hit a milestone with the vaccine rollout. On Tuesday, Health Minister, Dr Zweli Mkhize confirmed the number of people who have been vaccinated.
Mkhize said the country has vaccinated 479 768 people under the Sisonke Programme, and 565 336 elderly people so far.
This means more than 1 million people have been vaccinated since the start of the rollout.
"Today it is my pleasure to announce that we have breached the million mark and have vaccinated 1 045 104 individuals,”
“We will continue to ramp up daily vaccinations, working together with the private sector, towards attaining the targets we have committed to as government,” Mkhize said.
The lates Covid-19 data from 1 June shows that the country has seen an increase of 3 614 new cases being reported.
The number of Covid-19 related deaths has also increased, with 95 more deaths being reported on 1 June.
These provinces recorded Covid-19 related deaths, as shown by the recent data:
- Gauteng 44
- Free State 27
- Western Cape 9
- Northern Cape 7
- Kwa-Zulu Natal 5
- Eastern Cape 3
Despite the increase in cases, South Africa has seen some Covid-19 recoveries. The latest data shows that recoveries now stand at 1 563 719, representing a recovery rate of 93,7%.
