SARS: Income Tax Returns Closing Date Approaching

The South African Revenue Services (SARS) have called on citizens in the country to submit their income tax returns before the November 23, 2021 deadline. 

If you fail to submit your tax returns before the deadline, you will begin to incur administrative penalties for each month you are ‘non-compliant’. 

You can submit your tax returns at any SARS office nationwide or from the comfort of your own home at a time that is convenient for you. 

You can also access the following tax related services from your mobile phone. 

  • You can request a an eBooking appointment 
  • You can request to determine whether to submit a (PIT) tax return, 
  • You can request the issuing of the IT150 (Tax Registration Number)
  • You can request balance statements and provision of Statement of the Account (SOA)

Here’s how to submit your tax return online

Step 1: Log into your SARS efiling account. Click HERE to visit the website 

Step 2: Click on the 2021 return link 

Step 3: Click on ‘my tax return (ITR12)’ to access the form creation wizard

Step 4: You are encouraged to ensure all your information provided is correct including the tax reference number and the year of assessment

Step 5: Click ‘okay’ 

Step 6: Complete the form provided to you. If the section is highlighted in RED, you must fill in the information. If a section is highlighted in BLUE, you have supplied all the information needed

Step 7: Make sure the deduction section is correct. Missing information must be filled in 

Step 8: Click ‘Submit Return To SARS’. 

If you click ‘continue’ you will be able to see your tax assessment. 

Note: You can also save the information and complete the form at a later stage (BEFORE THE DEADLINE). Your tax return is not submitted if you do not click ‘Submit Return To SARS’.
