There are millions of individuals that benefit from social grants on a monthly basis. Social grants are normally administered at the beginning of every month to grant recipients.
For the month of December 2023, social grant payments were disbursed to beneficiaries as per the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) social grant payment schedule.
There are a number of holidays that the country observes during this time of the year, and Sassa has confirmed that grant payments will continue except on weekends and public holidays.
As the New Year falls on a Sunday, the 2nd of January 2022, it will be observed as a public holiday. The government agency will then commence with payments on 3 January 2023.
In an announcement, Sassa has confirmed that these are the payment dates for the month of January 2023:
- OLDER PERSONS GRANT: 03/01/2023
- DISABILITY GRANTS: 04/01/2023
- CHILDREN’S GRANTS AND OTHER GRANTS: 05/01/2023
According to Sassa, there is no set payment date for the Sassa Social Relief of Distress Grant (SRD) grant because it is a temporary grant.
Instead, SRD grant recipients will be notified of their grant payment dates via text message and they also have an option of checking when they can collect their monies on the official SRD grant website.
Earlier this year, Finance Minister, Enoch Godongwana had announced that some social grants will be increased.
Some of these social grants were increased in April 2022 and then for the second time during the month of October.
