With the month of April coming to an end, SASSA has released payment dates for the month of May.
Beneficiaries can expect to receive payments on the following dates:
- Old persons - 4 May 2021
- Disability grants - 5 May 2021
- Children's grants - 6 May 2021
The grant amounts increased in May, meaning beneficiaries can now expect to receive the following amount of money:
- Old age and disability grants - R1 890
- Persons over the age of 75 and war veterans - R1 910
- Foster care - R1 050
- Care dependency - R1 890
- Child support - R460
The R350 is the only grant that was not increased, as it is a temporary grant. The grant is expected to be discontinued at the end of April.
However, the Black Sash is currently advocating for the grant to be extended.
National Advocacy Manager of the Black Sash, Hoodah Abrahams-Fayker is calling for SASSA to continue paying beneficiaries until 2022.
"The conditions of why the grant was introduced in the first place are still existing and still will exist for a long time to come.
"We've come together as a civil society, demanding that government extend this grant for at least until March next year so that they have time to put measures in place to [implement] the Permanent Social Assistance Framework".
An open letter, regarding the extension, has been addressed to the President and several Ministers.
This includes the Minister of Social Development and National Treasury. Abrahams-Fayker said SASSA has expressed that it will engage with the National Treasury about the possible extension of the grant.
