As the year comes to an end, grant recipients are entering the last week in which they can collect their December grants.

Around 10 million people have been approved and are currently benefiting from the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant, with half of them having received their December SRD grant payments. However, more than 4 million individuals have had their applications for the crucial relief rejected.

SRD grant applicants are reminded that they have 30 days after they received their rejection status from the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA). These appeals can be made on SASSA’s SRD website.

Acting CEO of SASSA Dianne Dunkerley said, “SASSA is working tirelessly to ensure this matter is resolved as soon as possible, we sincerely apologise for the inconvenience and frustration caused by the dalay, but assure everyone that ever reconsideration request will be attended to”.

It's important to note that there is no fixed payment date for the SRD grant. It is paid throughout the month. The last 3 digits of your ID determine on which days you can collect your grant from the post office. To see the December 2021 SRD grant payment dates, CLICK HERE.

SRD grant recipients must also wait for an SMS informing them that their money is available before going to the post office. Beneficiaries who receive their grant in their personal bank accounts can withdraw their money at any time.
