Teaching scholarships for Master's students

The South African Research Chair in Teacher Education and the Centre for International Teacher Education (CITE), located at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT), generates basic and applied knowledge about the form, content, and impact of teacher professional development to enhance student learning.

CITE is focused on developing a knowledge base in the field of teacher education by investing significantly in the building of research capacity and the generation of a pool of researchers working in areas identified by the Centre. The focus is on becoming a local, national, regional, and international centre of research excellence in education policy and teacher education.

The specific objectives of the SARCHi Chair and CITE is to:
• Develop a rigorous and robust programme of research and scholarship to advance knowledge in the field of teacher education.
• Support and build research capacity.
• Bridge the current education policy-practice gap in South Africa and contribute to evidence based policy making.
• Build on existing initiatives in the field of teacher education in South Africa and globally
• Initiate and build a platform of research, research capacity, policy discussion, academic debate, and collegial collaboration pertaining to education policy and education in South Africa

Masters’ Scholarship:
The Centre is offering Three Master of Education scholarships for students. Generous funding is available on a competitive basis. Candidates have to show knowledge of academic research and have an interest in research in the field of teacher education.

Minimum requirements
Advanced degree in education or relevant social sciences together with some professional experiences.

• Letter of application;
• Highest qualification;
• A detailed Curriculum Vitae, as well as the names and full contact details (including email addresses) of at least three traceable and credible referees;
• Letter of motivation outlining past research work and achievements;
• Brief research proposal indicating intended research in the field of teacher education.
