The pandemic has impacted many aspects of our lives and many students at tertiary education institutions did not have the opportunity to walk across a stage and have their academic achievements celebrated.

In 2020, the Covid-19 pandemic hit South African shores and the country was placed under a hard lockdown. Once aspects of life returned to some sort of normality, many university graduates would have wanted to graduate in person.

However, due to Covid-19 protocols, universities chose to conduct graduation ceremonies in different ways. One of which was to conduct virtual or ‘smart’ graduation ceremonies. Some institutions allowed for students to submit pictures of themselves as well as quotes for the virtual ceremony.

Students at the University of South Africa (Unisa) will now have an opportunity to be celebrated at a graduation ceremony.

On Monday 14 March 2022, Unisa kicked off its 2022 autumn graduation season. The university's current graduation season is set to run until 23 June 2022.

The University said, “Graduations are the hallmark and pinnacle of trajectories that students follow in the life-long pursuit of wisdom and knowledge in the various degrees they undertake at Unisa”.

Unisa said that two gradations will take place per day from 14 March to 23 June 2022.
