The University of South Africa (Unisa) has announced that autumn graduations commenced earlier this week. This comes months after students were set to be capped as the university took a precautionary action to suspend all ceremonies as industrial action threatened to disrupt the festivities. This as some ceremonies were disrupted earlier in the year.

Graduation ceremonies began in Polokwane on Monday 27 June 2022 and will run until 5 August 2022.

Here are Unisa’s New Graduation Ceremony Dates

  • First series: Polokwane, 27 and 28 June 2022
  • Second series: Muckleneuk Campus (Tshwane), 1 to 8 July 2022
  • Third series: Cape Town, 11 to 13 July 2022
  • Fourth series: Durban (1), 18 to 22 July 2022
  • Fifth series: East London, 27 and 28 July 2022

Unisa said, “For many of our students, graduation ceremonies serve as the first-ever meaningful recognition and achievement – the fulfilment of not only a lifelong dream but the restoration of their sense of worth and indeed the reaffirmation of their humanity.”

The university thanked its staff members for their work in ensuring that graduation ceremonies can resume. They have also called on all other stakeholders to play their part in ensuring that the upcoming round of graduation ceremonies is successful.

“We equally recognise and thank the affected students and other stakeholders for their patience and understanding the inconvenience caused by the postponement of the graduations,” concluded the university.
