The Western Cape Education Department will be hiring 20 000 Education Assistants and General Assistants to work at schools over the next few months.
A total of 12 777 Education Assistants and 7 625 General School Assistants will be hired from 1 December until 31 March 2021. 
These job opportunities are aimed at youth between the ages of 18 and 35 years old.
This is part of the Presidential Employment Stimulus Programme endorsed by President Cyril Ramaphosa. 
The Basic Education Employment Initiative (BEEI) has made it possible for the department to look into recruiting assistants. The initiative received funding of R7 billion from the National Treasury to introduce interventions in response to the effects Covid-19 has had on the education sector. 
Education Assistants are required to be qualified unemployed graduates (NQF6/7) or in possession of an NQF 4 (Matric) qualification. 
School Assistants with or without matric (NQF 4) qualification will be considered, along with applicants who have Year 4 Schools of Skills qualifications or higher qualifications.
Assistants will receive a stipend of R3 500 per month.
