Answer

Minister of transport, Fikile Mbalula has published new directives pertaining to travel during level 4 of the national lockdown. This expands on the travel regulations already in place by introducing a curfew. This states the times during which vehicles used for private and public transport is allowed to operate.

This curfew prohibits people to travel between the hours of 8 pm and 5 am, however, this regulation does allow for a grace period of one hour meaning that, in an emergency, you will have an additional hour to complete the journey.

Essential workers in possession of a permit are exempt of this curfew.

Inter-provincial journeys may be completed - even during the curfew hours - to allow those who have been ‘stranded’ in another province when the lockdown was implemented to utilise the 7-day window period (1 May to 7 May) and return home.
