The Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) acknowledged that many workers in South Africa lost income due to the Covid-19 related lockdowns. This saw the introduction of a new relief scheme offered by the fund.

The Temporary Employer/Employee Relief Scheme (TERS) was introduced to supplement the income lost by workers in South Africa.

However, many people who applied for TERS relief have not received their money. Some error codes have been released to help clients rectify issues related to their applications

If No Contribution matches to the South African Revenue Service (SARS) could be found by the UIF you may receive one of the following error messages

  • ‘Employee do not qualify for TERS payments’
  • ‘No contribution received by SARS’

Receiving one of these error messages means that the employee could not be matched to the employee through the Pay As You Earn (PAYE) database.

The UIF advises clients to ensure that their PAYE number captured on the UIF database is correct. They add that the PAYE number must be correct on the UIF database not on the Covid-19 TERS claim.

If it is incorrect on the UIF database, clients are advised to correct it through the Registration and Declaration process.

The UIF said, ‘Use the UI8 form process to correct and once corrected, the Covid-19 TERS processing unit will pick up updated information and reconfirm the contributions check with SARS and if confirmed, the claim will be paid'.
