While the COVID-19 virus can infect anyone regardless of age, race, or gender - doctors and scientists have established that certain groups of the population are more likely to become seriously ill or succumb to the virus.
You are at a higher risk of becoming seriously ill or dying if you:
- are over the age of 65,
- are severely overweight (BMI of 40+),
- smoke cigarettes, or
- are immunocompromised or suffer from pre-existing medical conditions Ex. high blood pressure, heart disease, moderate to severe asthma or other lung diseases, cancer, diabetes, or uncontrolled HIV or AIDS.
If you or someone you know falls within this category, find out how you can prevent infection.
