Is South Africa Ready To Go Back To School?

Event Type:

Event Date:

Thursday, May 21, 2020 - 6:00pm

The Education Department recently announced plans to re-open schools by the 1st of June, while voices from unions and civil society have urged caution, some academics have suggested we push forward.

Some of the concerns raised include unsafe material conditions, hygiene risks, unfeasible logistics, policy assumptions, unfair assessments and unequal arrangements.

Though all actors would like schools to re-open, questions about how quickly, and under what conditions remain contested.

Join the Fishtank and our panel of speakers unpack some of the concerns around the department's plans.
