Parents and guardians in Gauteng will soon be able to see which schools their children will be attending in the 2024 school year. The provincial education department announced parents will begin receiving school placement offers this week. 
 


With the 2023 school year set to begin in one week, learners in one province are yet to know which school they will be attending. The Department responsible for placing these learners says capacity at schools remains a key challenge.

 


Gauteng parents who missed the initial 2023 applications deadline for school admissions into Grade 1 and 8 have been granted a second chance to apply, as late applications opened this week.


The majority of admission applications received from parents have been finalised by the Gauteng Department of Education.  However thousands of learners are yet to find out which school they will be attending in 2023.

 


Parents who did not submit school placement applications in Gauteng will soon be provided with an opportunity to do so. However, the schools that they can apply to for their children will be limited due to the availability of space.

 


Several improvements were made to the online admission system used by the Gauteng education department to speed up the placement of learners at schools. Despite these improvements, more than 30,000 learners do not know what school they will be attending in 2023.

 


Thousands of parents in the Gauteng province are advised to get ready for the upcoming school admission season, as there is less than a month left before the online allocation period begins.

 


Parents in Gauteng will be submitting online school applications to help their children secure a placement for the 2023 school year. The education department in the province has provided parents with some tips for their applications.

 


The 2022 academic year  got off to a rocky start after thousands of learners were not placed in schools despite learning getting underway at schools. 


Last week 700 learners were not placed in schools in Gauteng. This was worrying for parents as the school year had begun.


A teachers union is calling on the Education Department to allow learners to return to school at full time learning to ensure that no further teaching time is lost. 


The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) is reminding parents and guardians to complete their online applications before tonight’s deadline.
