For parents and guardians in the Northern Cape still in search of school placements for their children entering grade 1 and 8 in 2024, there is still an opportunity. The late application period for admissions for the 2024 school year has been officially opened by the Northern Cape Education Department.
The Northern Cape Education Department announced:
The Northern Cape Department of Education would like to inform all parents and/or legal guardians that late admission applications for the 2024 school academic year, will open on Monday, 08 January 2024 (09:00) until Tuesday, 16 January 2024 (23:59).
How To Apply
To submit a 2024 late application, parents and guardians must use the Northern Cape Department of Education's school admissions website. They must first register as users, followed by logging into the system with their selected username and password.
After submitting your school admission application along with the required documents, the system will promptly send an SMS to confirm the successful submission of your application.
The following documents are required:
- Certified copy of the official birth certificate/ID
- Most recent school report card of the child
- Proof that the child has been immunized against polio, measles, tuberculosis, diphtheria, tetanus and hepatitis B
- Transfer card
- Parent/guardian's ID
- Proof of child's residence
- Proof of home address
Should the parent be wanting a specific school but it does not appear on the list, this means that there is no more space available at the school.
Term dates for all public schools in 2024:
- First Term: 17 January - 20 March
- Second Term: 3 April - 14 June
- Third Term: 9 July - 20 September
- Fourth Term: 1 October - 13 December
Historically, schools in coastal provinces initiated their academic years at distinct times compared to those in inland provinces. The Basic Education Department has recently made a decision to standardize the start and end dates for all public schools nationwide.
Now, both coastal and inland schools will commence with the 2024 school year on 17 January and end on 13 December.
