The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has confirmed the payment date for child-related grants in August 2024. These grants include the Child Support Grant (CSG), CSG Top-Up, and Foster Care Grant, designed to support vulnerable children and their caregivers.
All Sassa child grants will be paid on Tuesday, 6 August 2024.
Child Support Grant (CSG)
The CSG is a monthly financial assistance provided to the primary caregiver of children under 18 years old. These funds are intended to cover essential child-related expenses such as food, clothing, and shelter.
To qualify for the CSG, you must:
- Be a South African citizen, permanent resident, or refugee
- Be the primary caregiver of a child under 18 years old
- Meet the income eligibility criteria
The CSG amount for August 2024 is R530 per child.
Child Support Grant Top-Up
The CSG Top-Up is an additional grant for caregivers raising orphaned children. This supplement aims to provide extra support to these families.
To qualify for the CSG Top-Up, you must:
- Be a South African citizen, permanent resident, or refugee
- Be the primary caregiver of an orphaned child under 18 years old (proof of orphan status required)
- Meet the income eligibility criteria
The CSG Top-Up is R250, bringing the total monthly grant for orphaned children to R780.
Foster Care Grant
The Foster Care Grant is specifically for caregivers legally responsible for children placed in their care through the foster care system.
To qualify for the Foster Care Grant, you must:
- Be a South African citizen, permanent resident, or refugee
- Be legally responsible for a child under 18 placed in your care through a court order
The Foster Care Grant is R1,180 per child per month.
