The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has confirmed the payment schedule for the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant for December 2024. The grant, valued at R370, is a lifeline for unemployed South Africans.

Early SRD Payments for December

SRD grant payments typically occur during the last week of each month. However, with December's schedule coinciding with Christmas, Boxing Day, and New Year's Day, Sassa has opted to release payments earlier than usual.

Beneficiaries can expect their payments between 17 December and 23 December 2024. Approved applicants are encouraged to check their SRD status to confirm the exact date their funds will reflect in their accounts.

Checking Your SRD Payment Status

To confirm your payment date, visit the official Sassa SRD website and follow these steps:

  1. Enter your ID number and the cellphone number used in your application.
  2. Complete the process by entering the One-Time Pin (OTP) sent to your phone.
  3. Your SRD payment status and date will then be displayed.

Payment Options for Beneficiaries

Beneficiaries have several options for accessing their grants:

  • Direct bank transfers, which are secure and convenient.
  • Collection points at ATMs and major retail outlets, including Pick n Pay, Checkers, Shoprite, and Boxer.

Sassa advises beneficiaries not to rush to withdraw their funds on the first day, as payments remain in bank accounts until withdrawn.

Millions Set to Benefit

Millions of South Africans will receive the SRD grant in December, providing vital support during the festive season. Beneficiaries are reminded to use official Sassa platforms to track their payments and avoid delays.
