The GDE announced the opening of its late application period on 11 December 2024. This process is designed to accommodate learners whose parents failed to complete their online admission applications earlier in the year. Late applications will remain open until 27 January 2025, giving parents a final opportunity to secure school placements for their children.
99% Placement Achieved for Early Applicants
Earlier this week, Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane reported that 99% of learners had been successfully placed. However, this figure only accounts for those whose parents submitted complete applications during the initial admission window.
The GDE has now called on parents who either submitted incomplete applications or missed the deadline entirely to act swiftly.
How to Apply: Late Application Process
Parents who missed the earlier admissions deadline must visit the GDE admissions website to submit a late application. Those who applied without valid proof of their home address will need to log in and select a school with available space.
For new applicants, the registration process involves creating an account, providing home address details, entering the child's information, and selecting up to five schools with available placements. Parents will then need to upload required documents within seven days.
Required Documents
To complete the late application process, parents must submit the following:
- Parent’s ID or passport
- Child’s birth certificate or passport
- Proof of home address
- Proof of work address
- Latest Grade 7 school report (for Grade 8 applicants)
- Immunisation record
Schools with Available Space
During the late application period, parents can only select schools where space is still available. Placement will be confirmed once the required documents are submitted and processed.
Final Deadline Approaching
The GDE has urged parents to act quickly, as the late application period closes on 27 January 2025. Placement offers should be accepted as soon as they are received to finalise the process.
The department remains committed to placing all learners ahead of the 2025 academic year, ensuring access to education for every child in the province.
