The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) plays a key role in distributing Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grants to people facing financial hardship across the country.

If your banking details are not up to date, you may be approved for the SRD grant but might not receive your payment on time. To ensure smooth processing, it’s important to check that your bank account information is current.

For those who want to change their payment method, updating banking details can be done via the official SRD website.

Steps to Update Your Payment Details for the SRD Grant in May

  • Step 1: Visit the official Sassa SRD website at https://srd.sassa.gov.za/
  • Step 2: Click on 'Click here to proceed' under the 'South African ID Holders' tab.
  • Step 3: Find the section titled 'How do I change my banking details.'
  • Step 4: Enter your South African ID number in the specified field.
  • Step 5: A unique, secure link will be sent to your mobile number that was used during the application process.
  • Step 6: Click on the link in the SMS and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the update.

If you choose to receive your payment through a bank account, ensure that the account is in your name. Sassa will not transfer the grant to someone else’s account. If opting for money transfer through a major bank, your mobile number must also be registered in your name.

Important Information

Any new banking details provided will only be used for future payments after verification. Double-check all information you submit to prevent delays in receiving your grant.
