The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) has officially commenced the late admissions application period for the 2024 school year. Parents and guardians in the province now have the opportunity to seek placement for their children at a school within Gauteng.

With over 300,000 admission applications received by the GDE for the 2024 school year, representing 99.8% of learners whose parents applied during the official 2024 admission application period for Grade 1 and Grade 8 placement in the province, not all students have secured placements.

The late application period provides parents the chance to ensure their child's placement in Grade 1 or Grade 8 at a school in Gauteng for the 2024 school year.

Parents have until the end of January 2024 to submit late admission applications for Gauteng schools. It is advisable to submit applications promptly as space is limited, and delaying may result in fewer placement options over the next month.

Late Applications to Grade 1 and Grade 8 for the 2024 academic year are opening on 18 December 2023 and closing on 31 January 2024.

The late application period offers parents and guardians the opportunity to apply for their child's placement at a Gauteng school if they missed the deadline during the official application period. However, in this late application phase, parents can only apply to schools that still have available space.

Unlike the official GDE admissions application period, where parents could apply to five schools, during the late application period, they are restricted to applying to only one school.

Only schools with space will be available for applications. Parents must apply to only one school and will be automatically placed at said school.

How To Apply

Before starting the application process, parents are advised to gather all the necessary documents and information required for the application process.

This may include proof of residence, birth certificates, and any relevant medical records or special needs documentation for learners who require additional support.

Here's how to apply:

  1. Go to the GDE Admissions website
  2. Register an account
  3. Fill in current home address details
  4. Fill in parents work address details
  5. Fill in learner's personal details
  6. Complete the school application form online.
  7. Upload all documents by using the upload function on the system

Once parents start their online application process, they will have to finish their application and go through every step in one sitting.

Every step of the application process will be confirmed through SMS for security and verification processes, and it is therefore important that parents provide a reliable cell phone number.
