The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) is reminding all prospective students to apply for funding before the 2025 NSFAS application deadline of Sunday, 15 November 2024.
NSFAS provides crucial financial support to deserving South African students enrolled in approved courses at universities and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges. This support includes cover for tuition and registration fees as well as allowances for food, accommodation, and learning materials.
Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Buti Manamela, made it clear that the NSFAS 2025 application period will not be extended
There will not be any extension beyond the 15 December, this year.
Grade 12 learners can apply without their final exam results. Households earning up to R350,000 per annum may qualify for NSFAS loans.
"Those who will be completing their Grade 12 this year and they want to study at a university or at a TVET College and their household income is less than R350,000, they can apply for a free bursary from NSFAS that will cover their transport, tuition and also there is a lifestyle allowance," said Manamela.
Higher Education and Training Deputy Minister Buti Manamela has urged all eligible students to apply for NSFAS funding. He emphasized the importance of timely applications and warned against fraudulent activities.
He also warned against providing false information on applications as it can lead to serious consequences.
