The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) is a lifeline for many South African students, providing crucial financial support to pursue their tertiary education. NSFAS funding is offered in the form of bursaries and loans.
NSFAS funding is available to students at TVET Colleges and public universities, which includes the University of South Africa (Unisa). Part of NSFAS funding is that students receive NSFAS allowances to pay for their student needs.
This article will delve into the specifics of NSFAS payments for Unisa students in October 2024.
NSFAS has confirmed that NSFAS allowances will continue to be disbursed throughout the year, ensuring that students have the necessary funds to cover their expenses. Unisa students can expect to receive their NSFAS allowances directly from the university in October 2024.
Unisa NSFAS Allowances
NSFAS provides two primary allowances to Unisa students:
- Learning Materials Allowance: This allowance is designed to assist students in purchasing textbooks and other essential study materials. The amount received depends on the number of modules registered. Students will receive R700 per module for the first four modules and a one-time payment of R5,460 for five or more modules.
- Living Allowance: Students enrolled in ten or more modules are eligible for a living allowance to help cover their daily expenses. Additionally, they may also receive an incidental allowance as determined by Unisa.
It's important to note that NSFAS covers both tuition and registration fees for eligible students, ensuring that they can focus on their studies without financial burdens.
