The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) is actively working to resolve ongoing delays in allowance payments for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) college students. Additionally, the scheme is addressing outstanding payments to accommodation providers.

NSFAS offers comprehensive financial aid packages to deserving students enrolled in approved courses at universities and TVET colleges. This assistance covers tuition and registration fees, as well as essential allowances for food, accommodation, and learning materials.

NSFAS is finalizing the processes towards the disbursement of outstanding TVET College students’ allowances and payments to accommodation providers.

Recent NSFAS Allowance Payment Delays

In May 2024, NSFAS introduced a new payment system for TVET college students, disbursing allowances directly to their personal bank accounts. However, recent delays in these payments have caused significant inconvenience for many students who rely on these funds for their daily needs and academic pursuits.

NSFAS is committed to finalizing all outstanding allowance payments to TVET college students. Furthermore, the scheme is working diligently to settle debts owed to accommodation providers, as delayed payments have put some students at risk of eviction.

NSFAS Budget Shortfall

To address the ongoing budget shortfall, NSFAS is collaborating closely with the DHET. The government has acknowledged the inconvenience caused by these delays and has assured students that they are actively working towards a long-term solution.

NSFAS is engaging the Department of Higher Education and Training to find a solution to the current TVET budget shortfall.

NSFAS will continue to provide updates on the status of allowance payments. For the latest information and support, students are encouraged to stay connected with NSFAS through official channels.

NSFAS would like to apologise for the delay and the inconvenience caused as we work on a permanent solution.
