Knowing when and where to fetch your social grant payment is very important for clients of the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa). Sassa grant payments are usually made during the first week of every month.

Sassa has said that Sassa grants will be paid from the first working day from the second day of the month.

Here's the Sassa grant payment schedule for April:

  • OLDER PERSONS GRANT - 3 April
  • DISABILITY GRANT - 4 April
  • CHILDREN'S GRANT (and all other grants) - 5 April

These dates do not apply to the R350 grant as that grant has no specific payments dates. Payments are made once Sassa processes applications and payments.

Even though Sassa grant payments start on specific days, beneficiaries don't need to fetch their Sassa grant payments on that specific day.

Sassa has reminded clients that they don’t have to collect their monthly Sassa grant payment on the designated day their Sassa grant is to be paid. This is because the money will remain in the benefices account until they choose to use it.

There is no need to rush to withdraw cash on the first day. Once the money is in the account, it will remain there until it is needed.

Collections are not done at Sassa offices but can be done by heading to retail stores, such as Shoprite, Checkers, U-save, Pick ‘n Pay and Boxer as well as ATMs. Grants can also be paid using a bank account.

Sassa distributes more than 18 million permanent social support grants monthly. These Sassa grants ensure that vulnerable people can access basic goods and services.

Permanent grants distributed by Sassa include the following include the Older Persons Grant, Disability Grant, Child Support grant, Foster Care Grant, Grant in Aid, War Veterans Grant, and the Care Dependency grant.

When the Covid-19 pandemic emerged, government introduced the Special Relief of Distress grant which sees beneficiaries receive R350 every month. The grant is set to come to an end in March 2024 and will eventually transform into the Basic Income Grant.
