The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has officially commenced April 2025 social grant payments. Millions of beneficiaries across South Africa will receive their grants this month.
Sassa distributes over 18 million permanent grants, including the Older Persons pension grant, Disability grant, War Veterans grant, Care Dependency grant, Foster Child grant, Child Support grant, Child Support grant Top-Up and Grant-in-aid. This is in addition to the approximately 8 million individuals who receive the temporary Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant.
Additionally, around 8 million individuals receive the temporary Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant.
Sassa Grant Payment Dates for April 2025
Consistent with Sassa’s grant payment policy, older persons will receive their grants first, followed by disability and child support grants.

Sassa Grant Increases for April 2025
During the annual Budget Speech, Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana announced Sassa grant increases for 2025.
The first round of increases takes effect in April 2025, with additional increases expected later in the year.
