The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has officially begun processing grant payments for December 2024, the final payment cycle of the year.

Sassa provides a range of social grants, including the Older Persons pension grant, Disability grant, War Veterans grant, Care Dependency grant, Foster Child grant, Child Support grant, Child Support grant Top-Up and Grant-in-aid.

Sassa Dates For December 2024

In line with its policy, Sassa is disbursing social grants during the first week of December. Payments began on Tuesday, 3 December, starting with the Older Persons Grant. Other grants will follow on subsequent days:

  • Older Persons Grant: Tuesday, 3 December
  • Disability Grant: Wednesday, 4 December
  • Children’s Grants: Thursday, 5 December

Sassa has assured beneficiaries that their funds will remain accessible after the payment date. The agency has also advised recipients not to rush to withdraw funds on the first day, emphasizing that the money will stay available in their accounts until needed.

Sassa Grant Amounts for December

The grant amounts for December 2024 are as follows:

  • Older Persons Grant: R2,190 (R2,210 for beneficiaries aged 75 and older)
  • Disability Grant: R2,190
  • War Veterans Grant: R2,210
  • Care Dependency Grant: R2,190
  • Foster Care Grant: R1,180
  • Child Support Grant: R530
  • Child Support Grant Top-Up: R250
  • Social Relief of Distress (SRD) Grant: R370

Where to Access Social Grants

Beneficiaries have the option to receive their grant payments directly into their bank accounts for convenience.

For those who prefer in-person withdrawals, grants can also be collected at designated payment points, including ATMs and participating retailers such as Pick n Pay, Checkers, Shoprite, and Boxer stores.

With the December payment cycle now underway, Sassa continues to fulfill its role in supporting South Africa’s most vulnerable citizens.
