SRD Grant Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the SRD grant in 2025, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be a South African citizen, permanent resident, or special permit holder.
- Not receive financial support from other government programs, such as:
- Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) benefits.
- National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) funding.
- Have a bank balance below R624 per month.
- The SRD grant was initially introduced in 2020 as a temporary measure to support unemployed individuals during the Covid-19 pandemic. Despite being a temporary initiative, it continues to provide vital assistance to many households.
What to Do If Your SRD Grant Application Is Rejected
If your application is unsuccessful, you can appeal the decision through the Independent Tribunal for Social Assistance Appeals (ITSAA).
How to Submit an Appeal
- Visit the ITSAA platform.
- Submit a separate appeal for each rejected month.
- Allow 60–90 days for the appeal process.
The ITSAA’s decision is final, and successful applicants will receive an SMS notification. If you don’t receive an SMS after 90 days, check your appeal status online.
