The University of South Africa (Unisa) is currently accepting applications for its Short Learning Programmes (SLPs)in 2024. These SLPs, commonly known as short courses, allow individuals to pursue focused learning needs using online resources provided by the institution.

The application period for Unisa's short courses closes on 28 February 2024, providing interested individuals with just over a month to apply to be part of Unisa’s SLPs. These SLPs have varying requirements based on the programme.

Unisa's SLPs emphasise "just in time" and "just enough" learning to meet specific needs identified by individuals, organisations, or society. These programs are administered through Unisa's Centre for Lifelong Learning (UCL).

Who Can Apply?

How to Apply

  1. Visit the Unisa website
  2. Click on 'Apply'
  3. Under Short Learning Programmes, click on 'Find Out More'
  4. Under 'How to apply?', click on 'CLICK HERE to apply online'
  5. Click on the bubble next to 'Short Learning Programmes'
  6. Follow the prompts and submit your documents

Required Documents 

  • Copy of school qualifications (e.g., Senior Certificate)
  • Copy of official tertiary academic record(s) (if applicable)
  • Copy of ID document (RSA students) or ID/passport (international students)
  • Copy of marriage certificate (if applicable) or divorce decree (if applicable)
  • Sworn translations of documents if not in English or Afrikaans

There is no application fee for Unisa's Short Learning Programmes.

Unisa also offers a wide range of certificates, degrees, diplomas, and short courses at the bachelor, master, and doctoral levels. Short courses are particularly beneficial for those looking to enhance their skills while employed.
