It's important that beneficiaries stay informed about any developments concerning their Sassa grant payment. This includes changes in eligibility requirements, collection method as well as the payment dates for the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant.

To qualify for the Sassa SRD grant beneficiaries must be aged between 18 and 59, unemployed with a monthly income that does not exceed R624. Since September is around the corner, let's have a look at the grant payment dates for September.

SRD Grant Payment Dates For August 2023

When it comes to the SRD grant, commonly known as the R350 grant, it is always important to note that there is no set payment date. Instead, Sassa notifies approved applicants via SMS when their grant payment is available.

This is why it is important to provide a valid phone number when applying for this grant.

How To Track Your SRD Grant Application

Keeping track of your SRD grant application is equally important, as this helps avoid any delays in receiving your grant payment. This can be done using the steps outlined below:

Here’s how to check your R350 grant application status:

  1. Go to the Sassa SRD grant website
  2. Scroll down to 'Application status'
  3. Click on 'Click here to check online'
  4. Fill in the required fields

Following this you should then be able to see the status of your R350 grant application.

Where To Collect Your Grant In 2023

Sassa also provides a variety of options for beneficiaries to collect their grant payments when made available. Here are some of them:

Bank Account

SRD Grant Beneficiaries can choose to have their grant paid directly into their bank account. This allows them to access the money as soon as it is available.

Cash Send

Individuals who do not have a bank account can make use of the SRD grant CashSend payment option. Beneficiaries use their ID numbers and phone numbers to access their grant money. You must have a cellphone with a registered cellphone number and proof of identification to use this grant payment method.

Retail Stores

Grant beneficiaries can collect their SRD grant at several retail stores around the country. Pick N Pay, Checkers, Shoprite and Boxer stores pay the SRD grant.

If your SRD  grant application was successful, you are not required to reapply for the grant. However, Sassa will verify your eligibility status every month. If you continue to meet the qualification criteria, you will be paid until the implementation of the grant comes to an end.

Permanent Sassa Grant Payment Dates For September 2023

Permanent social grants include the Older Persons grant, Disability grant, War Veterans grant, Care Dependency grant, Foster Child grant, Child Support grant, Child Support grant Top Up and Grant-in-aid.

These Sassa grant payments are usually made during the first week of each month, and since September is a few days away, staying informed about when to expect your grant payments is important.

Here are the Sassa grant September payment dates:

  • Older Persons Grant - Tuesday, 5 September
  • Disability Grant - Wednesday, 6 September
  • Children's Grant - Thursday, 7 September

Sassa has also extended the validity of Sassa Gold cards that were due to expire to December 2023.

This means that beneficiaries can still collect their grant payments even if their gold card has expired. The agency also introduced a payment method that enables beneficiaries to collect their grant payment without a Sassa gold card.

While Sassa permanent grants have a fixed payment schedule, the R350 grant typically does not.

However, the Agency has decided to set dates for the SRD grant, in order to keep recipients informed as to when their grant money is ready for collection.

The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has stated that the SRD grant will be distributed during the last week of the month; for example, September SRD grants will be received during the last week of August.
