School Performance Report 2023 Shows Matric Results Per School

After the glamour of the top learners in the country receiving certificates from the Basic Education Minister at the Matric results ceremony, the School Performance Report was released to show how each of the country's nearly 7,000 schools performed in the Matric exams.

In her speech to announce the national pass rate for 2023's matric pass rate, Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga congratulated the class of 2023 who has suffered through the Covid-19 pandemic on their way to their Matric year.

As well as congratulating the top students other information was released on the night. This included the School Performance Report for 2023.

School Performance Report 2023

The 2023 NSC Exam Results Schools Performance Report presents data on the performance of all schools that wrote the 2023 NSC Examination, including public schools, special schools and independent schools. It also provides data on the overall performance of all these schools over a three-year period so that a school is able to measure and track its performance over the last three years.

  • Western Cape - 81.5%
  • Gauteng - 85.4%
  • Limpopo - 79.5%
  • Northern Cape - 75.8%
  • Eastern Cape - 81.4%
  • North West - 81.6%
  • Mpumalanga - 77%
  • Free State - 89%
  • Kwazulu-Natal - 86.4%

IEB Matric Results

The Independent Examinations Board (IEB) has unveiled the matric results for the class of 2023, with an overall pass rate of 98.46% in the National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations.

This achievement marks a slight improvement from the 2022 pass rate of 98.4%. The results encompass three distinct levels: 88.59% attained a degree

pass, 8.31% secured a diploma pass, and 1.57% received a higher certificate pass.

Matriculants who are unhappy with their matric results will now be able to apply for a rewrite, remark or recheck. Registration for the Second Chance Matric Programme are open until 20 February as well.
