There was some relaxation to the lockdown rules when President Cyril Ramaphosa made his more recent speech to the county on Sunday night.  The third wave is not over he said, but it is significantly easing so the government has decided that the rules can be relaxed to allow some more freedom of movement and business to return.

The United States of America’s Food And Drug Administration (FDA) has fully authorised the Pfizer Covid-19 Vaccine. The vaccine known as the Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine will now be marketed under the name Comirnaty.

The Department of Education in Northern Cape is experiencing a surge in infections in schools throughout the province. Eight schools in the province have been closed in order for contact tracing and the disinfection of the school premises.  

President Cyril Ramaphosa has praised South African youth due to their eagerness to get the Covid-19 vaccine. He described the turnout  made by the 18-35 year-olds to get their jabs as 'impressive' in his weekly newsletter, From the Desk of the President. 

It is estimated that more than 82 000 South African children have been orphaned due to the Covid-19 pandemic and a further 94 000 children lost their primary caregiver, a recent report found. Save the Childrens SA’s Divya Naidoo explained that this could be either a parent or grandparent. She believes that this will have a long lasting impact on these children.

As from today, 18-34 years olds are eligible to receive the covid-19 vaccine as part of South Africa’s vaccine rollout plan. This comes 11 days before it was originally planned for this age category to receive their life saving jabs.

Government has decided to fast track the vaccine rollout by allowing people in the 18-35 age group to register and be vaccinated.

The Department of Basic Education is considering scrapping the October school holidays to make up for lost teaching days due to disruptions to the school calendar. The proposal by the Department of Basic Education comes after consultations with various role players in the education sector.
