The government has been working on a Covid-19 vaccination plan, with the hopes of producing the vaccine locally. In a media address on Monday Morning, Minister Blade Nzimande gave updates about the progress that the Department of Science has been making with the vaccine.

The Basic Education Department has announced that it will be delaying the reopening of schools. The department said it made this decision in an effort to save lives. 

Matshidiso Khalimatshi was one of many South African youth unable to find work in their chosen field after graduation. After weeks of sending one email application after another without response, she realised that she would have to change job-hunting tactics.

Schools are expected to open on the 27th of January, but there are fears that the Department of Basic Education has not done enough to prepare schools.  

Covid-19 has added a new element to the workspace, as employers and employees now have more responsibilities. With the vaccine set to be rolled out as early as this month, questions remain about whether employers can force employees to take the vaccine. 

During his address to the nation on Monday night, President Cyril Ramaphosa confirmed that the country will remain on lockdown level 3. The President also announced new adjustments that will be in place while the country remains on adjusted level 3. 

There are over 15 000 people in hospital at the moment for Covid-19 and about a third of them are on oxygen treatment, as the new variant of Covid-19 spread across the country.  The President announced new measures the government has decided on to tackle the pandemic.
