After much uncertainty about when the vaccine will arrive in South Africa, the government has given an update about the roll out strategy. 

The Unemployment Insurance Fund has decided to step in once again and to provide relief for workers affected by the lockdown. This comes as many businesses have been looking to the government for some form of relief, following the new level 3 regulations. 

South Africans don't seem to be too keen on taking the vaccine. This is according to an Ipsos survey done on behalf of the World Economic Forum.

Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize announced that medical schemes will be able to cover the cost of the Covid-19 vaccine. 

President of the National Teachers Union (Natu), Allen Thompson has passed on after contracting Covid-19. 

More than 6 million Covid-19 tests have been conducted in South Africa, with 1 113 349 confirmed positive cases being identified. Now at what seems to be the peak of the second wave, the Covid-19 death toll stands at 30 011.

Fear remains as teachers and learners will be going back to school in 2 weeks. The second wave of Covid-19 has made a teacher union call for the government to make teachers a priority. 

 

The government has been working on a plan to roll out the vaccine. The vaccine is set to arrive soon and a 3-phase plan is in the works to make the roll out smooth. 

The updated lockdown regulations have hit the tourism sector once again. Some businesses were hoping for the festive season to be their saving grace, but they now fear they may not survive.
