While the industrial centre of the country in Gauteng was the early frontrunner in the number of Covid-19 cases, as the virus has spread across the country the growth in confirmed cases is now higher in the Western Cape. It is expected to also have the highest number of deaths in the country in the next few days.
On the 22nd April the Western Cape reported a 9% increase in cases with 94 new infections. Gauteng had 29 new cases which was a daily increase of 2.5%.
Minister of Basic Education Angie Motshekga has praised the class of 2021 for the results they achieved during the National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations. This as they had to navigate education and examination in the midst of a global pandemic.
