Residents from various communities around Gauteng are protesting outside Rand Water Resivor in Johannesburg. They have been without water for the past few days. Areas affected by the water cuts include municipalities in Johannesburg, Ekurhuleni and Tshwane.

A recent study has detected a new Covid-19 variant in South Africa. The C.1.2 variant has been detected in multiple provinces in South Africa. The virus has been found in several South African provinces as well as in parts of Africa, Asia, Europe and Oceana(New Zealand, Australia, Fiji, Samoa).

Minister of Social Development, Lindiwe Zulu

The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has announced that the first batch of R350 relief of distress grants has been successfully paid to citizens who applied last month. Sassa is hoping to have processed the final batch of grants for about 2 million people by the end of the month.


The Minister of Health, Dr Joseph Phala said that he hopes that country can reach herd immunity by the end of 2021. Phala hopes that between 60% and70% of South Africa’s adult population will be vaccinated by the end of the year as this would help open the economy and other social activities.
