South Africa’s progressive employment equity legislation has not gone far enough to enable people with disabilities to fully integrate into workplaces and perform their jobs optimally.

Earlier this year, the Department of Basic Education (DBE) announced they  received more than 6 million applications for the Teaching assistant and general school assistant posts. Only around 278 000 positions were available.

Nedbank has launched the Nedbank DigiSkills online platform, in partnership with Microsoft and Afrika Tikkun, to help South Africans acquire the in-demand skills needed in a more digital post COVID-19 economy. The initiative initially aims to upskill and create sustainable income opportunities for 1 000 South Africans by the end of 2021, with plans to grow this number to 5 000 in the longer term.

The department has received more than 5.5 million applications for their Teaching assistant and general school assistant posts. Around 278 000 positions were available when the application process opened at the end of last month.

The Department of Basic Education (DBE) has announced they will be extending the deadline for the Basic Education Employment Initiative (BEEI). The new closing date will be on Sunday, 10 October 2021.

Applications for the Department of Basic Education’s (DBE) Teaching Assistant programs open today.The initiative originally formed part of President Cyril Ramaphosa’s Employment Stimulus Programme and would create 100 000 general school assistant jobs and 200 000 education assistant opportunities.
