The South African Higher Education sector has introduced a number of measures to ensure that the skills gap in the country can be filled. Here’s how the Department of Basic (DBE) is playing its part.


A number of provinces have opened their online application portals for learners starting Grade 1 and Grade 8 in 2023. While parents can apply for specific schools, some schools will require learners to complete tests before they can be admitted.


Learners in the Northern Cape will soon be embarking on the next step of their academic journeys as they start with Primary and High school.  Here’s when applications will open in the province.


Parents in Gauteng will have a four-week period to apply for a placement at schools for their children attending Grade 1 and Grade 8 in 2023. 


Technology has evolved the way we conduct daily tasks and the days of approaching schools directly for learner placement are no longer standard practice in many of South Africa’s provinces.

 


The deadline to register children for grade 1 and grade 8 in the Western Cape has closed, however, this does not necessarily mean your child will not have a desk in a classroom next year.

 


Last week 700 learners were not placed in schools in Gauteng. This was worrying for parents as the school year had begun.


The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) is in a race against time to place learners in schools before the start of the 2022 academic year.


After receiving thousands of applications for learner placements, the Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) has now moved on to the next step of the application process. 


The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) is reminding parents and guardians to complete their online applications before tonight’s deadline.


The Gauteng Department of Basic Education (DBE) has praised parents for their efforts to register their children for the 2022 academic year before Friday’s October 8 deadline.


The Gauteng Department of Basic Education (DBE) is urging parents to continue using the online admission system to apply for placement for their children as around 30 000 applications remain outstanding. 


The Gauteng Education Department (GDE) has confirmed that more than 73 000 online successful applications were received by the department on the first day of Phase 2.


The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) has announced that the second phase of the online application system will open on Monday. This second phase will run from Monday 13 September 2021 to Friday 17 September 2021.


The Gauteng Department of Education is urging parents to submit their children’s grade 8 High School applications before the September 3 deadline. This deadline will mark the conclusion of the first phase of online applications that opened in August.
