The Covid-19 pandemic has had a major impact on the livelihoods of South Africans. While jobs were lost and people were forced to accept pay cuts, artists were left with very little options to generate income.

Artists are meeting with officials in the Department of Sports, Arts and Culture with regard to support for the industry.

The South African Film industry has been severely impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic. The industry recorded a revenue of just over R3 billion over the past year. This is less than half of the R7.2 billion industry in 2019.

During a media briefing on Monday, Minister of Arts and Culture, Nathi Mthethwa confirmed that an indipendent forensic report was presented to him by the National Art Council (NAC) which highlighted the mismanagement of funds, violation of the PFMA, maladministration and over-committing of funds.
