The first few years at school are crucial in a child's development, as the foundation of learning is laid as they learn the basics of literacy and numeracy. However, parents in the Free State fear that learners could lose out on this crucial development.

The Department of Basic Education participated in the Presidential Youth Employment Initiative which has provided jobs to more than 270 000 unemployed individuals. However, are participants banned from studying?


With youth unemployment at worryingly high levels in South Africa, many citizens have voiced their unhappiness around the criteria of the next phase of the Education Department's teacher assistant initiative, as well as its implementation. 


Almost two in every three youth in South Africa are unemployed as the unemployment rate in the category stands at a staggering 65.5%. 


As youth unemployment continues to soar in South Africa, several employment initiatives were introduced by the government to remedy the issue.


Choosing a private school is a complex process and the wide range of available options does not make it any easier.  Over the past decade, private schooling in South Africa has changed significantly and there are now private schools available across the economic spectrum.


Earlier this year, the Department of Basic Education (DBE) announced they  received more than 6 million applications for the Teaching assistant and general school assistant posts. Only around 278 000 positions were available.

The Department of Basic Education (DBE) has announced they will be extending the deadline for the Basic Education Employment Initiative (BEEI). The new closing date will be on Sunday, 10 October 2021.
