President Cyril Ramaphosa and Health Minister Zweli Mkhize were among the first to receive the Johnson&Johnson vaccine. 

The first 80 000 doses of the Johnson&Johnson vaccine has officially arrived in South Africa. The vaccine landed at OR Tambo International Airport on Tuesday evening.

Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize has confirmed that government is considering swapping the AstraZeneca vaccine with other countries. 

The rollout of the AstraZeneca vaccine has been suspended in South Africa, following the release of a new study of its effectiveness against the Covid-19 variant commonly found in South Africa. 

Reserve Bank Governor, Lesetja Kganyago announced that the Reserve Bank will not be changing the repo rate this year.

Cyril Ramaphosa's government is being roundly criticised for not acting fast enough to secure vaccine supplies to protect health workers and other vulnerable groups from Covid-19.
