The aim of the course is to provide persons who are required to design and develop assessment instruments and guides based on given source documents, including unit standards. Assessments designed by persons who have achieved this unit standard, aim to ensure that the outcomes are credible, fair, free of all bias and discrimination, valid, reliable and practicable.
The program is adapted to ensure that the needs of a range of outcomes are covered, including unit standards, exit level outcomes, learning outcomes and procedures.
Course structure & Contents
This course is presented under license from the Assessment College of South Africa, which is fully accredited by the ETDP SETA and ISO 9001:2000
Design and Develop Assessments (Unit standard 115755) 24 credits on NQF 5, provides an understanding of different ways of assessing with the development of appropriate instruments, and includes the following key elements:
• conduct an analysis of source documents, including unit standards, to establish evidence requirements and the assessment approach/es,
• design an assessment strategy,
• design assessment activities to collect evidence of competence, and
• develop and evaluate assessment guides.
The course is presented over 4 days (3 + 1), and is followed by the submission of an assignment consisting of a portfolio of evidence. The additional support session or electronic support is provided to facilitate the submission of the assignment.
The workshops will be from 08h30 – 16h00, and subsequent support session to assist with the portfolio approximately 3 weeks later.
Who should attend
Educators and trainers who are responsible for designing assessment instruments and strategies, who provide moderation and curriculum design. Formal assessments are an integral requirement within the NQF for the recognition of skills and provision of Recognition of Prior Learning, and are claimable against Skills Development Levies.
