Finance for Non-Financial Managers


The purpose of this skills programme is to provide learners with a set of skills to manage the finances of their unit as if they are running a mini-business. Learners leaving this course will be able to make critical decisions affecting the financial performance of their unit and the organisation as a whole.

Learning Outcomes

 Demonstrate an understanding of the key concepts of managerial finance

 Interpret financial statements

 Draft financial forecasts

 Draft budgets according to the operational plans of a unit

 Supervise the financial management of a unit against given requirements

Learning Methodology

This course is delivered using the unique board game called Commercium. This game is used to simulate a business and learners progressively play the game in stages to learn and apply critical financial concepts. On the final day of the course, learners are expected to analyse the performance of their business and to present and motivate financial decisions which must be made, based on the analysis.

Learning is supported by user-friendly workbooks and by CD-toolkits. Learners are encouraged to bring a laptop to the course.
