Event management is one of the jobs that have been list as ‘highly in demand’ by the Government’s skills shortage publication in 2018. Event management is an ideal career for entrepreneurs and self-starters as it is a kind of business that can relatively easily be established with limited capital. It may however be advisable for a young entrepreneur to first work for an events company for a period of time, or alternatively work in partnership or as agent for an existing company to gain some useful experience of the industry. In addition, event management has considerable scope for someone who enjoys being creative in his/her work. There are always a lot of opportunities to create new events and ideas for parties, team-building, celebrations, sports- and other events. No two events ever have to be the same.
Some of the requirements for people working in the events industry includes attention to detail, customer relationship knowledge, marketing and project planning. The GradCampus Career Builder Programme for Event Management ensures that all of these requirements are addressed in the programme, along with entrepreneurship and business planning for those students aiming to start their own business. In this way candidates are given the opportunity to enter the job market and earn a living in the events industry.
Who should enrol
School leavers and young graduates who have a keen interest in working in the event industry for a living, or just to get a good foothold in the world of work. The programme has a strong focus on entrepreneurship, but that does not mean that graduates in this programme are limited to starting and running their own businesses. Graduates may very well choose to seek regular employment in industry and will find that they have a deeper and wider understanding of the business world than most others who chose to specialise in only the technical aspects of event management, as a result of the fairly comprehensive exposure their CBP offers, both on a personal and professional level.
Entry-level careers and roles in/as:
- Event Manager
- Event Planner
- Event Coordinator
- Small business owner

A Matric pass and a good command of English are highly recommended for successful completion of the programme. You must also have regular access to the Internet via a computer or laptop - you will not be able to complete your work effectively from a cell phone.
