First Aid | Level 1

This unit standard is for persons who are responsible to apply basic first aid in the workplace. Persons credited with this unit standard are able to:

  • Assess the emergency situation.
  • Identify the physical condition of casualties.
  • First aid treatment of casualties.

First Aid | Level 2

This Unit Standard will be useful for employees to enable them to provide primary emergency care (first aid) in response to an occupational risk induced or any health emergency in their specific workplaces.

Qualifying learners are able to:

First Aid | Level 3

Explaining the principles of advanced primary emergency care in all health emergencies.

Demonstrating an advanced level of preparedness to deal with potential emergencies.

Assessing and managing a complex emergency scene/disaster.

Explaining the applied anatomy and physiology of the human body systems and describing the emergency care management of

Disorders and diseases relating to each physical system.

Applying primary emergency life support for all age groups according to international and/or national protocols.

Explaining and managing shock.

Chainsaw Operator | Level 2

People credited with this unit are able to:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of chainsaw parts and basic mechanics.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of safety during chainsaw use.
  • Prepare and start a chainsaw.
  • Cut felled timber with a chainsaw.
  • Carry out periodic maintenance on a chainsaw.

Basic Welding | Level 2

  • The skills, values and knowledge reflected in this unit standard are required by people in the field of engineering.
  • Qualifying learners can perform heat-related joining of metals, using oxy-fuel gas processes, brazing, soldering, high frequency brazing, butt welding and spot welding.
  • They are able to verify task requirements and select necessary welding processes, equipment and consumables, to comply with specifications and to apply safe work practices.

Coaching and Mentoring | Level 4

A person credited with this unit standard will be able to understand and implement environmental initiatives during all phases of the construction process.

This unit standard will contribute to the full development of a professional community of construction supervisors.

The skills, knowledge, competencies and understanding demonstrated within this unit standard are essential in order to sustain the physical environment and natural resources. It will also ensure that the social-cultural interests of all communities are considered and promoted.

Performance Management | Level 4

This unit standard is intended for people who are or who aspire to become supervisors or line managers at any level. Persons credited with this unit standard are able to set performance goals and measures; to formulate development plans; and to monitor and evaluate performance.

Team Building | Level 4

This Unit Standard introduces the junior manager to the concept of motivation. This Unit Standard is intended for junior managers of organizations.

The qualifying learner is capable of:

  • Explaining the importance of motivating a team.
  • Demonstrating an understanding of self and team members in the workplace.
  • Applying theories of motivation and group dynamics.
  • Implementing a plan of action to strengthen a team.
  • Providing feedback and recognizing achievements.
