Following the departure of the previous CEO, Mr Tebogo Thejane and the sudden resignation of the Chief Operations Officer, Mr Erwin Sonnendecker, the Construction Education and Training Authority is delighted to announce the appointment of Mr Petrus Mawuku to the role of Chief Executive Officer with effective from March 1, 2008. Mawuku has rich experience, knowledge of various aspects around the Skills Legislations and its regulations.
Commenting on the appointment of Mr. Petrus Mawuku as the CETA CEO, the chairperson of CETA, Mr Narius Moloto said: "CETA Executive Committee undertook an external executive search and all applicants for the position of CEO delivered 45 minutes presentation and written assessment on their understanding of CETA?s mandate, operations and its generic organisational challenges.
Mr Moloto also stated that "Mawuku is one of the pioneers in the development of the SETA?s and the Construction Charter for transformation and has many years of experience on how the SETA?s operate with a view of promoting and accelerating the course of skills training in South Africa.
"CETA?s decision to appoint Mawuku as CEO, believes that he has strong business and leadership skills which are crucial factors needed in this extremely competitive industry and it has full confidence that he will be able to exercise decisive leadership, management skills, commitment, and the drive to take CETA forward to fulfill its mandate.' Moloto said.
Petrus Mawuku started participating to SETA?s environment from Mining Qualification Authority as Board and Exco member. He has also participated as Board member for Energy SETA, SASSETA and the Construction SETA. He was also a member of CETA?s Finance Committee and CETA-Education Training and Quality Assurance Committee (CETAETQA).
He has been the Board Chairperson of POSLECSETA before merging with DITHETA and POSLECSETA.
Mr Mawuku has provided his expertise on a number of SETA?s and before being appointed as the new CEO of CETA, He was serving on the National Skills Authority (NSA)
advising the Minister of Labour on Skills Development issues and the implementation of the National Skills Development Strategy.
At present, Petrus Mawuku sits on the Board and Finance Committee of Elijah Barayi Training College including Finance Committee of National Union of Mineworkers.
Petrus Mawuku who obtained his Master of Business and Administration from De Mont University in Sandton, Johannesburg, says he?s looking forward to the challenges of the new role and said, "being CEO of Ceta is one of the most exciting and challenging roles I can imagine. I intend to deliver on the Ceta mandate and plan to have a major focus during my role to gain support and cover the interests of our stakeholders on the area of skills training.
