The Department of Home Affairs had a record year - issuing more than 4 million smart ID cards during the 2025 calendar year, marking the highest annual delivery rate in the department’s history.
The Department of Home Affairs (DHA) has extended operating hours on Saturdays in May to accommodate the increased demand for Smart ID cards from naturalised citizens and permanent residents from visa-exempt countries.

Spaza shop owners looking to grow their businesses can apply for support through the Spaza Shop Support Fund. The programme seeks to help township and rural enterprises improve their operations, increase their competitiveness, create jobs and contribute to local economic development.
